Nowadays the Internet as an unlimited source of information tempts millions of users who would like to take advantage of it. Like in case of other common problems number of tools was created to help to deal with this one, commonly referred to as web crawling.

It is no surprise that at Software Mind we also encountered this issue. Generally speaking our task was to search given set of forums and retrieve information about topics that fulfil certain conditions. It is worth noting that we had to cope with the forums that had very diverse structure which greatly hampered the task.

OClusttourne of the WeKnowIt project achievements is  the ClustTour application − an online city exploration application that helps users identify interesting spots in a city by use of photo clusters corresponding to landmarks and events.

The main goal of ClustTour is to enable tourists to explore new places by use of an interactive map and photo clusters centered on Points of Interest. The application relieves tourists from the information overload commonly present in tourist information sites and tries to answer a simple question: “What are the interesting things to see and do in the place I would like to visit?” (more…)

Nowadays, the amount of data gathered by companies is huge and constantly growing. Unfortunately, some of these data has highly complicated structure or even is completely structureless, therefore it’s hardly persistable using ordinary RDBMSs. That’s where triple stores shine. However, great flexibility comes with certain drawbacks like performance issues. Thus, whenever lots of data is going to be stored in your triple store, make sure that inadequate performance won’t kill your system.

The aim of the WeKnowIt Image Recognizer mobile application is to provide user with the detailed information on the location and name of a POI on a picture (i.e. picture taken by user). The application uses services developed within the WeKnowIt project in order to:

  • recognize object (POI – Point On Interest) on picture,
  • determine its geolocation,
  • determine tags associated with this POI,
